NEW CHANCES

There have been a lot of issues surrounding the future of Stephen Ireland playing international football for the Republic of Ireland. After falling out with several managers due to off the field incidents, he has retired from international duty. Now, the nation has appointed Martin O’Neill as the manager of the national team. Ireland is known to get along well with O’Neill since he was the man who brought him out of Manchester City to Aston Villa. As a result, there has been speculation that Ireland maybe persuaded out of international retirement.

His club manager Mark Hughes, though, feels that it is still too soon for the midfielder to think about international football. He says that he should focus on being a consistent player at club level. Ireland has been having an excellent season for Stoke after coming to the club on a season-long loan deal from Aston Villa. Since his contract with the Midlands club is about to expire at the end of the season, he is widely tipped to stay at the Britannia stadium beyond this campaign as well. He has become a fan favourite after scoring one goal in eight appearances for the club.

“Stephen’s doing OK but he’s is not quite at the level that he was at two or three years ago. In terms of international football I think it is too soon, to be perfectly honest. I think he just needs to concentrate on getting back on track in terms of playing football week in, week out. It’s great for Jon [to captain Ireland] and he’s having a great time of it at the moment,” said Hughes about Ireland and John Walters.

Hughes thinks that Ireland can play much better given the talent at his disposal. Stoke City are undefeated in the last four matches.

READY TO BATTLE

Andy Carroll became a record signing for West Ham when they paid £15million on May of 2013 to Liverpool in order to secure the services of the 24 years old forward but so far has not been able to even play with his new club as he has been struggling with an ankle injury that has left him in the sidelines for 7 months.

West Ham are fighting in the bottom spots of the Premier League and are in need of their £15 million signing as they are one of the clubs that has managed to score less goals in this season.

They have received a boost recently after hearing news that Carroll has now returned training with the rest of the squad. The head coach of West Ham, Sam Allardyce did not feature Carroll in their match against Liverpool even though he was able to make his return.

“We will get him back as quick as we possibly can, but my position is to take a sensible view. We are in a difficult position at the minute but I can’t panic into putting Andy in too quickly. It is my responsibility to make sure he is there to stay when he comes back onto the field, and not just one or two games’’.
“In the position we’re in at the moment it is extremely tough to resist putting him in. I’d like to put him on the bench at Liverpool, but that would be rather stupid.” said Allardyce
The absence of Carroll has forced Allardyce on playing a number of matches in the Premier League with a formation without any forward or any main attacking outlet, so his return will be a huge boost for the team that are in need of someone that can get them out of the bottom spots of the standings.

STILL DREAMING

On 21 May 2013, West Ham made a £15 million move in order to permanently sign the former Liverpool player Andy Carroll but a heel injury has kept him unable to display the reason why West Ham splashed that amount of money.

In the last match of the past season the English forward sustained a heel injury which has kept him not able to play with West Ham in their last 9 matches.

Even though the injury has kept him away from the playing field, he remains optimistic about his future even stating his desire to play with England in the upcoming World Cup and try to play an important role for his national side.

“I’ve just got to get back and play for West Ham and score some goals and force myself back into the England squad,”

‘’I’m working hard every day and if I keep doing that then it shouldn’t be too much longer. I’ve kicked on a bit from when I first went over there. I was in a boot and on crutches, but it’s obviously feeling a lot better and I’m starting to do heavier work, rather than just balancing’’.

Having only scored 2 goals in 9 matches for England, it’s crucial that he makes a successful and complete recovery if he wants to secure the striker position in England’s squad as its currently being played by: Rooney, Sturridge and Welbeck as those are Roy Hodgson’s preferred choices.

West Ham’s coach Sam Allardyce already stated his desire for a swift recovery from Carroll and as soon as he is available, there is no doubt he will be added into his starting XI squad which is just what Carroll needs if he wants to get attention of Roy Hogdson and make a possible appearance in the 2014 World Cup.
